Stewart Mackay and his older brother were tight. They lived in the same town, both served as police officers, and swore to take care of each other’s family should anything happen to either of them. “We were each other’s ‘emergency go-to’,” says Stewart.
When his brother passed, Stewart had a promise to keep. “I had a lot of people counting on me to stick around for a while,” he says—his own wife and two sons, his niece and nephew and his 86-year-old mom. “I was grotesquely overweight…I was getting depressed and felt pretty lousy about myself,” he says. “I felt if I didn’t lose some serious weight fast, the stage was set for something tragic to happen.”
Stewart tried every diet out there and found them all impossible to stick to. “They deprived me of the foods I enjoyed eating and none of them educated me or showed me how and when to eat,” he says. He was always hungry, had constant cravings and ended up gaining weight instead of losing. “I felt lost and out of control.”
“This Time Was Going to Be Different”
In January 2018—ten months after his brother passed—Stewart and his wife decided to try Nutrisystem. “We quickly realized that Nutrisystem was a very different situation,” says Stewart. Ordering was easy, the food was delicious, and Nutrisystem offered a wide variety of meals and snacks. “This time was going to be different and we were going to be successful!”
And that they were: Stewart lost 19 pounds* in the first month and 75 pounds* in 19 weeks. His wife shed 45 pounds* in about the same time. They were able to follow the program’s recommendations and meal guidelines easily and thoroughly enjoyed the meal options.
Stewart’s favorite meals were the Turkey Sausage & Egg Muffin for breakfast, Meatball Parmesan Melt or Hamburger for lunch, Salisbury Steak with Mac & Cheese or Chicken Pot Pie for dinner and the Ice Cream Sandwich for a snack. “All of it, just outstanding!!”
“I’m Healthier in Both Body and Mind”
Stewart and his wife have maintained their weight loss for more than year and he’s confident they can keep it off. “I no longer live to eat,” he says. “Now I understand that I should eat to live.” To Stewart, that means eating to satisfy his body’s nutritional needs with foods that he enjoys. “Zero deprivation,” he adds.
With this weight loss success, Stewart’s life has change dramatically. “I’m healthier in both body and mind,” he says. He no longer feels aches and pains in his knees and back, has more energy during the day, and he sleeps better at night. Stewart is even off the blood pressure medication he had been taking before he lost the weight.
“I’m more confident, I’m happier,” says Stewart. “I feel like I’m once again in control of my life.”
