Barbecue adds the smoky, savory flavor to potato chips that perfectly complements their crispy crunch. But when you have a bit of a sweet and savory tooth, BBQ Sweet Potato Chips are the only thing that will satisfy our cravings. So why not have both? With this unique BBQ Sweet Potato Chips recipe, you’ll get the best of both worlds.

A Healthy Sweet Potato Chips Recipe

Store-bought potato chips often satisfy those cravings, but is the satisfaction worth the post-snack guilt? We don’t think so! Instead, swap them with healthy, homemade potato chips like this sweet potato chip recipe. If you’re on a Nutrisystem plan, you can count them as just one SmartCarb and one Extra in your NuMi app journal.

To make them grab a large sweet potato and slice it into thin pieces using a mandoline. Pat the slices dry with a paper towel, then make the seasoning blend of your choice.

Pick up a bowl from your cabinet and combine your spices together into a bit of a spicy soirée. For a delicious BBQ chip seasoning blend, we use a combination of paprika, onion powder, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, black pepper and salt.

Brush each side of the sweet potato slice with canola oil, then toss the seasonings onto the slices, making sure to save some of the seasonings for later. Now it’s time to get cooking!

How to Make Sweet Potato Chips in the Oven

To make baked sweet potato chips, preheat your oven to 400 degrees and place the seasoned potato slices on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake them for about 20 to 25 minutes or until they reach your ideal level of crispiness. We recommend flipping the slices halfway through the cooking time and checking the frequently so they don’t burn.

When they’re finished baking, sprinkle the leftover seasoning on top and allow them to cook for five to 10 minutes before serving. Keep in mind, baking your chips instead of deep frying them reduces the calories and greasiness in each serving without losing any of the crunch.

How to Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips

If you’re wondering what’s even better than baking your homemade chips? How about air frying them! Air fryers are one of the latest, greatest and healthiest trends that put a healthy twist on your favorite fried foods. From Salt and Vinegar Chips to Mexican Pizza, there’s no end to the delicious meals an air fryer can make.

If you want to use your handy dandy air fryer instead of the classic oven, start by preheating it to 400 degrees and spritz the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray. Place the seasoned potato slices into your air fryer basket in one later. Cook them for 15 minutes or until they are crispy, making sure to flip the slices halfway through cooking. Check them frequently to ensure they aren’t burning.

When they’re done cooking, sprinkle them with leftover seasoning and let them cool for about five to 10 minutes. That’s it! You’ve got a healthy air fryer snack to satisfy your sweet and savory cravings.
