If you chose to personalize your Nutrisystem meal plan by activating NuMi SmartAdapt®, your meal plan and calorie goal will be tailored to YOU. You get to eat the foods you love on a simple plan designed for your unique metabolism, so you can lose weight and learn how to keep it off.

When you enable NuMi SmartAdapt, we create a calorie goal designed for your unique metabolism with a personalized meal plan to match. Your calories will be personal to you and based on your height, weight, age, gender and activity. These characteristics will determine the amount you will eat each day. Find out how we create your personalized plan here! >

NuMi will ask you a few easy questions, then NuMi SmartAdapt will create a calorie goal that’s unique to you. For plans that do not include 7 in 7, NuMi SmartAdapt will provide that personalized calorie goal right from the start. (If your plan includes 7 in 7, this will start in your second week.)

Once your personal calories are calculated, they won’t change for the next 28 days until you enter week six. This helps you to form good habits and sets you up for success in your first month.

As you make your way through your weight loss journey, you may be wondering why your calorie goal is changing. But don’t worry! Rest assured that your calories are calculated specifically for you. Plus, keep in mind that eating too little can actually hinder your weight loss progress!

While you do need a calorie deficit when trying to lose weight, dropping your calories too low for too long can backfire. When your calories are too low, your body will defend against this by slowing your metabolism (also known as metabolic adaptation). This is the opposite of what you need from a weight loss plan!

NuMi SmartAdapt is designed to adjust your daily calorie goal when you hit certain weight loss milestones to prevent weight loss plateaus. The goal is to help you achieve long term success. It’s a plan that adapts to YOU.

As you lose weight and/or increase your activity level, the number of calories you need starts to change. NuMi SmartAdapt addresses these metabolic changes by adjusting your diet to coincide with weight loss and activity level changes.

Your plan will start to adapt to your changing metabolism in the second month of your journey. This ensures that you’re eating the proper amount to keep losing weight at a steady, healthy pace instead of hitting frustrating plateaus.

As you log your meals and weight into NuMi, the app will review your progress and make changes to your meal plan according to your needs. In the beginning of your second month, SmartAdapt will recalculate your calorie goal after every 10 pounds of weight loss. It will also adapt to address plateaus.

Make sure that you are continuously logging your weight loss progress in the app. We recommend that you record your weight in NuMi at least once per week to get all the benefits of SmartAdapt.
